Vel Mining is primarily a wash plant operation — crushing and washing crushed chrome ROM from 24% Cr₂O₃ upwards into metallurgical-grade concentrate, alongside crusher sweepings recovery and specialist tailings treatment. We run a 102 tph plant in Mooinooi, scaling to 120 tph within 3 months, with an in-house logistics arm. Our one-year objective is to plug City Deep into full synergy with our Durban port warehouse, completing 90% of the supply chain from ore to client under one operator.

Primary ROM Washing

Crushed Sweepings
We take in crusher sweepings and stockpiled fines from crushing operations — material most operators write off — and wash it into saleable concentrate.
Tailings Treatment
Specialist re-treatment of tailings from 12% Cr₂O₃ upwards — 50/50 product split or flat fee by tailings quality.
Side-Tipper Haulage
In-house fleet moving product from Mooinooi to City Deep and Durban port, cutting out third-party markups.

Next 12 Months

Within the next year Vel Mining will bring a second 120 tph wash plant online, taking group capacity to 240 tph. Alongside it, our City Deep facility will offer a complete FOB option — including in-house packaging, bagging, and container stuffing — so buyers can take delivery on FOB terms directly out of City Deep and Durban port.
